The material
What it is
A fine cement based composite applied in coats thin enough to measure in millimeters, over a reinforced base. It cures hard and continuous. No grout lines, no seams, no joints, which means there is nowhere for water to get behind and nowhere for mold to start.
It is the only engineered finish we apply, and it behaves like one. Consistent color, predictable performance, and no surprises in year three.

Bathrooms
The strongest case for microcement. Continuous, water resistant, wipes clean, and it does away with the grout that is the first thing to fail in every tiled bathroom ever built.
Kitchens
Splash, heat, oil, and daily cleaning. Microcement takes all four without complaint, and a seamless backsplash has no joint for anything to collect in.
Hallways, stairwells, and entries
Nothing to chip, nothing to crack. It just keeps looking the way it looked when we left.

Straight answer
Where it doesn’t
Microcement will not age into anything. In ten years it looks like it did on day one, which is exactly why some people choose it and exactly why others do not. It also has no patience for sloppy substrate work, since every high spot and soft patch underneath telegraphs through, so prep ends up being most of the job. And it does not breathe, so on a damp old wall with no vapor control it is the wrong call. That wall wants lime.

What installation involves
Substrate preparation first and thoroughly, then a reinforced base, then two or more finish coats, then sealer. Each coat is thin and cures quickly, so this is the fastest of the three on site.
The speed is in the application, not the preparation. We do not shorten the prep, because prep is what decides whether the wall still looks flat under raking light in five years.
Aftercare
Living with it
- Water and a soft cloth. Mild soap when it needs it.
- No sealing schedule, no special products, no seasonal maintenance.
- Safe to clean properly. This is the finish you can scrub.
Questions
About microcement
Can it go over existing tile?
In many cases yes, which is the main reason people pick it for a bathroom renovation. No demolition, no dumpster, no three weeks without a shower. We confirm the tile is sound and well bonded first.
Is it genuinely waterproof?
The system is water resistant and, sealed and detailed correctly, suits wet areas including shower walls. Detailing at junctions and drains is what makes or breaks it, and that is the part that needs doing properly rather than quickly.
Will it crack?
Only if the substrate moves. The reinforced base coat exists precisely to absorb the small movement a normal wall makes. Assessing the substrate at the start is how we avoid it.
