Microcement kitchen backsplashes and worktops
A backsplash exists to take abuse: oil, steam, acidic splashes, and frequent cleaning. Microcement handles all of it, and removes the joint where grease normally collects.
Why seamless matters most here
A tiled backsplash has a grid of grout lines directly behind a cooking surface. Grease and steam settle into them, and no amount of cleaning fully reverses it over time.
Microcement gives a continuous surface from counter to cabinet, which wipes clean in one pass and has nowhere for anything to settle.
Heat and staining
It performs well against the heat a normal range produces. Behind a very high-output burner we discuss detailing, because sustained direct heat is different from ambient heat.
Sealed microcement resists the usual kitchen offenders. Wine, oil, and citrus should still be wiped rather than left overnight, which is true of nearly every surface.
Worktops
Microcement worktops are possible and look excellent, particularly running seamlessly up into the backsplash. They need a sealer specified for horizontal food-preparation use, and they want a little more care than the walls.
In short
For a kitchen, the absence of grout is worth more over ten years than any aesthetic argument.
